Notice of Rate Application – 2015 Rates

North Bay Hydro has submitted a Cost of Service Rate Application to the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) for rates effective May 1, 2015.  Distributors like North Bay Hydro typically apply for a full review of their rates every five years and rate changes for the years in between are made by applying a formula that is tied to inflation and other factors intended to promote efficiency. The OEB and various interest groups will have an opportunity to question North Bay Hydro on all aspects of the application and the process allows for a very thorough testing of the reasonability and justification of the rates proposed by North Bay Hydro.  At the end of the hearing process, the OEB will decide what, if any, change will be allowed. You have the right to information regarding this application and to be involved in the process.  You can:

  • review North Bay Hydro’s application on the OEB’s website now.
  • file a letter with your comments, which will be considered during the hearing.
  • become an active participant (called an intervenor). Apply by March 2, 2015 or the hearing will go ahead without you and you will not receive any further notice of the proceeding.
  • at the end of the process, review the OEB’s decision and its reasons on our website.

Good calls and bad calls

Posted on

We value your feedback because we learn from your experiences. To help us in our decision making process, we occasionally conduct surveys over the phone. But it’s important to recognize and report calls that aren’t legitimate. Be aware of calls claiming to be from North Bay Hydro or “Your Electricity Distributor” that ask for your banking or credit card numbers. Never provide this information over the telephone and report the call to us at (705) 474-8100.

Tips for Recognizing Telephone Fraud

  • Who’s calling please? Don’t be afraid to request information from the caller so you can verify their validity. Don’t be afraid to hang up the phone.
  • What’s the hurry? Fast talkers using high pressure tactics could have something to hide. Most respectable businesses will allow you time to weigh your options.
  • Don’t disclose personal information about your account, bank accounts or credit card to any business that can’t prove it is legitimate.

The Ontario Energy Board has announced new electricity prices. The new prices will apply to most households and small businesses starting November 1.

When the prices change, the hours for mid-peak and on-peak prices also change to the winter time-of-use hours. The lowest-priced, off-peak period remains from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays and all day weekends and holidays. The price for consumers is increasing by approximately $2.03 per month on the “Electricity” line, and about 1.7% on the total bill, for a household with a typical consumption pattern and using 800 kWh per month.
