If you plan on digging on your property to install a fence, plant a tree, or for other reasons, you must have a locate performed to ensure you don’t contact underground electrical cables and services. It’s the law. Striking an underground cable or gas pipe, can result in serious injuries or death. By contacting Ontario One Call before you dig, you’ll stay safe and avoid unnecessary damage to buried lines and potential liability and costs.
To request an underground cable locate:
Ontario One Call is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please provide at least five working days’ notice. After Ontario One Call dispatches your request and we determine that there are cables in the area to be excavated, a service representative will visit your premises and mark them free of charge.
Ensure locates from all other utilities are completed prior to excavation – there will likely be more than one service provider in the area with underground infrastructure. All locate information & documentation, either electronically or hardcopy, shall be available at the site for the excavation contractor/company/person, prior to commencing excavation.
Again, it’s the law! Having utilities located before you dig is required by law under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
